Yahoo mail with new Look
Yahoo Mail has unveiled some of the new features and applications.

Yahoo Mail, the world's biggest webmail service, has unveiled what it calls a 'smarter Inbox'.

Among the changes to Yahoo Mail is a welcome page with update notifications from other socially-enabled sites such as Twitter.

From next year Yahoo Mail will also support third-party applications such as Flixster and Xoopit.

"One way to make an Inbox smarter (is to) make applications that can work within it, opening up Yahoo Mail to content and services built outside the Yahoo network," said Mark Risher, product management director at Yahoo Mail.

Other changes will allow members to access the photo-sharing website Flickr from within their Inbox under its 'Open Mail Initiative'.

The new features are currently only available to power users, but Yahoo said it will be extending the beta test to other users during 2009.
